Len Howell brings 35-years of banking experience to South Atlantic Bank. He will serve as our South Coast Regional Executive Vice President where he will oversee commercial lending and regional executives.
Len’s territory ranges from Charleston, south to Hilton Head, Beaufort, and Bluffton. He looks forward to the challenge of building the bank’s presence in these markets. The region offers a unique mix of industries, from hospitality to aerospace and automotive, to technology.
“I’ve done it all at some point in my career,” he said. “South Atlantic has the best of what a community bank can offer, in terms of good people, good leadership, a clean portfolio, and a proactive approach to doing business.”
In his new role he’ll rely on old-fashioned relationship-building, to make an impact on the region. He looks forward to connecting with customers and his staff of lenders.
“Seeing growth is one of the best parts of my job, not just in the market, but growth in our team, as well,” he said.
“I really enjoy developing lenders and helping them excel in their roles to meet their personal and professional goals. That’s good for them, good for the bank, and good for the region.”
Len attended his undergraduate studies at Sewanee (University of the South), where he graduated as an English major before earning his masters at the University of Virginia. He came to banking by chance, but quickly found that he had a knack for developing business and working with people. A few promotions turned into a full-fledged career. With the vast majority of his career taking place in Charleston, he knows the difference a community bank can make in an area.
“You can see the impact you have as a banker — the buildings you finance, the people you touch — it’s pretty rewarding,” he said. “I’m looking forward to working with this team.”
