Avoid COVID-19 Scams

Stimulus check scams will be common as the government prepares to send out money. Do not respond to texts or emails about the checks or direct deposit payment.

Remember, the government:

1. Will not ask you to pay anything up front to get this money. No fees. No charges.
2. Will not call and ask for your Social Security number, bank account or credit card number. Anyone who does is a scammer.

Hang up on robocalls. Don’t press any numbers even if the recording says pressing a number will remove you from their call list. It may lead to more calls instead.

Before you make any investments, remember there is a high risk for fraud right now. Be wary of any company claiming to have the ability to detect or prevent the Coronavirus.

Donate wisely. Search the charity name online and verify a charity’s authenticity before donating to make sure your donation counts. Visit charitywatch.org to find a charity’s ratings. If someone wants a donation in cash, by gift card or by wiring money, don’t do it.
