After you’ve opened your new South Atlantic Bank account:

Step 1: Stop using your old account.

  • Once you’ve opened your new South Atlantic Bank account, make sure to stop using your old bank account.
  • Leave enough money in your old accounts for any recurring transactions or pending charges.

Step 2: Redirect any direct deposits from your old bank account to your new SAB account.

  • Fill out this form and deliver it to your employer’s human resources or payroll team member. You may be able to accomplish this over the phone.
  • If you need to sign up for the direct deposit of a government payment such as Social Security, follow step 1 on this form. 

Step 3: Update payment information on all recurring transactions.

  • Take a look at your past month of transactions and write down those that withdrew payments automatically. Use our checklist to keep track. 
  • You may be able to change much of this information online or over the phone. If not, you may present this form to the withdrawing company. 

Step 4: Close your old account.

  • We recommend leaving your old account open for at least one statement cycle.
  • Once you’ve verified that all outstanding items have cleared your old account and all your automatic deposits and withdrawals have been updated, you’re ready to close your old account. 
  • To close your old account, fill out this form and deliver it to your current bank. Your bank may digitally transfer your remaining funds into your new SAB account or write you a check for the remaining amount. 
  • Don’t forget to keep all closing statements from your old bank for your records, empty your safe-deposit box, turn in your key, and cut up your old debit cards.

Step 5: Enroll in online banking and get the app.

  • With Online Banking and Bill Pay, you can access your accounts anytime. Bring the bank right to your home or office with our Online Banking service.
